Cost and capacity
FinOps is not only “turn things off”. Sustainable cost work ties tags and cost centres to accountability, sets budgets with sensible alerting, and links architectural choices to monthly invoices your finance team can reconcile.
Tagging and ownership
We recommend a minimal viable tag set (environment, cost centre, workload, data class, owner) with owners and change control. Legacy resources without tags get time-bound remediation rather than permanent exceptions.
Capacity and purchasing
Commitments and reserved capacity should map to named workloads and change processes so coverage does not silently drift. Right-sizing and storage tiering belong in release review checklists, not one-off campaigns.
Reporting cadence
Exports should align with finance periods; avoid month-end scripts that “smooth” differences you cannot reproduce under audit questions.
